When you lose someone in anyway - it could be death, a breakup, any distance, etc. - there are so many feelings you never thought or consciously knew existed until that moment. Sometimes we are in denial about those feelings, and suppress them until we nearly explode - or actually do. Then the wave of emotions comes cascading our way and we have to choose how to deal with it. This song was written while riding that wave. Glad I made it out OK.
lyrics
There's a whisper on the window
And a lantern burns to shy away the storm
Do we play the part?
Or relax every bone in who we are?
There's a figure in the doorway
An ancient spirit stolen from the past
Do we say goodbye?
Or relive every moment 'til we die?
Well I didn't mean to cause no trouble
I'm only holding on 'til I break
Til I break
And...
Beg for another one
And scream for another one
It's only a light year away
You can send for another one
And curse all the other ones
Baby, just as long as it takes
Any word on where you're going?
You know it doesn't have to be so far away
And now the turning leaves won't help me
And the stars, they can't caress me
Well I didn't mean to cause no trouble
I'm only holding on 'til I break
Til I break
And...
Beg for another one
And scream for another one
It's only a light year away
You can send for another one
And curse all the other ones
Baby, just as long as it takes
The world is unforgiving
Send it all in space
Now you're looking on the bright side of a gun
Yeah, you are
Chances are that you're debating
Words are always petty 'til they're gone
